The Opportunity:
Nurture Source Partners is looking for a Senior Construction Accountant to join their team. While there is a beautiful office in Berkeley, CA, this role can sit anywhere in California. This is a highly critical, high-impact role at the center of their financial operations and project execution infrastructure. This role bridges accounting, operations, and vendor management to ensure the financial and administrative backbone of the business runs smoothly and accurately. As the Senior Construction Accountant you’ll serve as the organization's primary Accounting point-person, managing an in-house Accounting Associate, and liaising with outsourced Accounting partners. You’ll support the Partners of the firm and own critical internal accounting and operational processes, driving efficiency and optimizations throughout the function, and ensuring the company and projects are set up for success. You’ll work closely with the Partners, External Accounting firm, vendors, project managers - internal and external stakeholders.
Working closely with Leadership, Project Managers, vendors, and external accounting partners, you will ensure that financial processes—from vendor payments and project billing to payroll coordination and compliance—are executed with precision. Your work will directly support project profitability, vendor accountability, and the company’s ability to scale efficiently. You are comfortable managing multiple workflows at once—from vendor payments and payroll coordination to project billing and compliance tracking. You are proactive, communicative, and naturally curious when something doesn’t look right. Rather than waiting for issues to surface, you identify risks early and work with stakeholders to resolve them.
You are also a collaborative partner who understands how accounting functions support the broader success of construction projects. You communicate effectively with vendors, project managers, leadership, and external accounting partners, bringing professionalism and clarity to every interaction.
Above all, you take pride in building reliable systems and processes that allow a fast-moving construction business to operate with confidence and financial discipline.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full Accounts Payable function, managing and supporting the team responsible for invoice processing, vendor payments, and financial recordkeeping.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices, including intake, entry into QuickBooks Online (QBO), and routing for Project Manager approvals.
- Establish and maintain clear, organized systems for digital invoice tracking by project and vendor.
- Provide guidance and escalation support on vendor communications, including resolving discrepancies, approval delays, and payment inquiries.
- Ensure bidwork invoices are structured correctly, including appropriate labor allocations, in partnership with Project Managers and Operations.
- Oversee the weekly check run process, including aging payables review, internal coordination, and timely vendor payments.
- Ensure proper controls and documentation are in place for check preparation, distribution, and vendor payment tracking, including pickup and mailing logistics.
- Continuously evaluate Accounts Payable workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability through process improvements and automation.
- Partner with Project Managers and Operations leadership to support accurate and timely project billing
- Maintain visibility into accounts receivable by project and client
- Flag billing gaps, aging receivables, and potential revenue risks proactively
- Coordinate with the external accounting firm to support and ensure accurate financial records
- Oversee vendor compliance and risk management processes, managing the team responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date vendor records in Airtable, including insurance certificates, contracts, business licenses, and related documentation.
- Ensure systems and processes are in place to proactively monitor vendor compliance, track expirations, and drive timely follow-up on any gaps.
- Oversee the management and regular review of the suspended vendor list, ensuring clear communication of status updates and reinstatement requirements to internal stakeholders and vendors.
- Provide oversight and coordination of Workers’ Compensation (WC) and Independent Contractor (IC) insurance audits, ensuring accurate data collection, timely submission, and adherence to compliance requirements.
- Manage WC and IC policy renewals in partnership with internal leadership and external vendors, ensuring appropriate coverage, cost efficiency, and minimal operational risk.
- Continuously assess and improve vendor management and compliance workflows, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, reduce risk exposure, and increase operational efficiency.
- Oversee the company’s expense management processes, managing the team responsible for credit card reconciliation, employee reimbursements, and expense tracking.
- Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of company credit card transactions, including proper coding and alignment with project and operational budgets.
- Oversee the integration and synchronization of Rippling Spend transactions with QuickBooks Online (QBO), ensuring data integrity and consistency across systems.
- Establish and maintain clear processes for employee reimbursements, ensuring timely processing, proper documentation, and adherence to company policies.
- Ensure all expense records are organized, accurate, and audit-ready, supporting monthly close, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Continuously evaluate expense tracking workflows and systems, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, visibility, and financial controls.
- Proactively review weekly Project Manager Status Reports to identify risks, billing gaps, or blockers.
- Act as the primary internal liaison with the external accounting firm for Accounts Receivable, helping drive timely and accurate client payments.
- Oversee and lead the proper coordination and processing of Independent Contractors and employees through Rippling
- Maintain accurate payroll documentation and check logs
- Prepare and submit monthly payroll report s required for Workers’ Compensation coverage across company entities
- Manage banking controls including Mechanics Bank Positive Pay and paid check run uploads
- Prepare and maintain check registers and payment documentation for internal review and audit purposes
- Maintain organized digital and physical records of payments, invoices, and supporting financial documentation, continually identifying areas to streamline and optimize process
- Continuously evaluate financial and operational processes, systems, and workflows across the organization and implement efficiencies and optimizations.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial workflows, automation, and operational efficiency

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven experience in construction Accounting, with a minimum of 5+ years in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of construction project operational processes, insurances, vendors, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Proficient in Quickbooks Online
- Proficient in creating, maintaining, and organizing Google drive (especially sheets/Excel)
- Excellent analytical skills combined with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Excellent communication, verbal and written
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions quickly

Compensation + Benefits
- Annual salary range: $85,000 - $105,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
